Manager Pre-training and Breaking
Brian has over 25 years experience in the racing industry, starting his career as a strapper and progressing through the ranks to foreman at some of the top stables in Australia, in addition to becoming a licenced trainer in his own right. Brian served as the foreman for Gerald Ryan's Gold Coast operations, working his way up from stablehand. From there he moved to the stables of Mick Price, performing saddling up duties on racedays. Brian then spent 12 months with Gai Waterhouse as foreman, where his responsibilities included representing Gai at provincial meetings.
Brian's next position enhanced his profile significantly in the racing industry. Working as the foreman for John O'Shea, Brian was a regular at city meetings, as he was responsible for overseeing the preparations of stars such as Racing to Win, Private Steer, Primus and Written Tycoon.
After acquiring his trainer's licence, Brian then set up his own stables, going on to train well known commodities such as the Group performing Moama, Umanugget, Noreil, Sir Teles and Fools Rush In. Brian then served a brief stint as Clarry Conners' stable foreman, before joining Cobbitty Lodge.
Brian's wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of horse training, breaking-in and pre-training, ensures that all horses are afforded the highest quality education, preparation and care during their time at Cobbitty Lodge.
Assistant Manager - Racehorses
Mary hails from country NSW and knew very early in life that her destiny lay with the equine species, attending Pony Club for many years and commencing employment in the horse industry at the age of just 14. Crafting her skills, Mary went on to complete a Diploma in Horse Management and gained valuable experience working at various horse establishments over many years prior to joining Cobbitty Lodge.
At Shipton Lodge, Mary worked with pre-trainers and breakers as well as the handling of yearlings under the supervision of Paul Blattmann. Mary also spent time with Andrew Inglis as a show-jumping groom and at Kerry Packers ‘Ellerston Station’ as a Polo Groom. In her “spare time”, she broke in and trained her own horses of varying breeds, most of which went on to be enjoyed by countless others. With a strong work ethic, responsible and conscientious nature, Mary takes great pride in her work and strives to turn out horses out to the highest possible standard.
Since joining Cobbitty Lodge at the beginning of 2008 as Assistant Manager – Racehorses, Mary has focused on returning horses to their trainers in the best possible physical and mental condition, refreshed and revitalized for optimal racetrack performance. |
