Breaking-In

A nursery for champions, Cobbitty Lodge has previously set the Australasian Record for breaking-in the most number of Group Winners in any one season; traditions of excellence which continue today, educating racehorses in a fashion which ensures optimal readiness for the racetrack.

Breaking-In is one of the biggest steps a horse will face in its life and the Cobbitty Lodge program ensures the transition from paddock to riding horse is a smooth one.  At the same time, each horse is afforded the exposure it requires to prepare for its racing career.  Groundwork is important as each horse receives an individualised program based on their particular needs with quality of outcome, rather than financial imperatives, driving the process in a time-frame which typically ranges from 4 to 6 weeks.  Leading, tying up, leg handling, rugging and wash bay education are all part of the program and optimal facilities including a purpose-built undercover rubber lined sand round yard provide the perfect platform to deliver outstanding results year in year out, in the education of young, aspiring racehorses.

Spelling

Cobbitty Lodge features 36 purpose-built, individual spelling paddocks, each with its own shelter and feeding barn, enabling horses to escape from the harshness of the natural elements in a serene rural environment with plentiful shade from the trees. Paddock design emphasises safety with post and rail and electric fencing and under-stocked paddocks ensure that there is always a fresh green pick for every horse.  Famous for quality of outcome, Cobbitty Lodge offers premium individual spelling with personalised and professional attention.  Twice daily feeding and inspection as well as 24 hour management supervision ensures that your horse receives the very best of care and returns to its stable rested, refreshed and revitalised and mentally ready to resume its racing career.

Sale Preparation

The Sale Preparation Process requires experience, know-how and attention to detail; features synonymous with the Cobbitty Lodge mantra of delivering personalised and professional equine services.  Scientifically formulated feeding programs, professional handling & education and daily grooming & rugging ensure that your horse is presented for sale in the best possible fashion.  Renowned for their meticulous attention to detail, Cobbitty Lodge staff are able to cater for all of your sale preparation needs including yearlings, tried and older horses and are committed to ensuring that horses in their care achieve the best result for their owner.  Sale-Day supervision and attendance is generally available upon request provided sufficient notice is given.

Pre-Training

The Cobbitty Lodge pre-training program features an expert professional riding team, superb facilities and scientifically proven feeding programs and consistently delivers superior pre-training outcomes.  Twin training tracks provide the perfect platform for the delivery of pre-training outcomes to a trainer’s specification.  The 700m Sand Oval Track provides for left and right-handed and uphill and downhill galloping and the 800m Uphill Sand Track, operating on a gradient of two degrees with multiple entry and exit points, affords each horse variety in its workout, exposure to different settings and conditions and an extra edge in fitness.  Our pre-training programs include re-education when needed and each horse is treated as an individual whilst achieving its required level of fitness.  With an emphasis on horsemanship, flat work (dressage training) may be incorporated into pre-training if required and tranquil settings provide the ideal environment for the nervy racehorse that needs to settle.

Boxing/Treatments

With onsite Management supervision, at call veterinary services, immediate proximity and access to the renowned Sydney University Veterinary Station at Camden and superb purpose built facilities, horses are able to be treated for and recover from the most complicated of medical predicaments.  The 24 Stable Barn is able to accommodate horses that need to be confined due to lameness, sickness and rehabilitation and undercover day yards are also available for ill and injured horses.  Twice daily inspection and feeding programs ensure that any other problems are swiftly identified and dealt with in the most appropriate manner for optimal results in cases of mishap or misadventure.
