Cobbitty Lodge Stud & Stables is situated in the picturesque town of Cobbitty NSW, just down the road from Warwick Farm Racecourse and less than an hour’s drive from each of Sydney’s major metropolitan racetracks.

Established in the 1970’s Cobbitty Lodge is a purpose-built property which is widely recognised as a pioneer in the collocation and delivery of breaking-in, pre-training and spelling services for thoroughbred racehorses. 

The 42 acre farm has accommodation for 75 horses and embraces two training tracks. The 700 metre Oval Track was designed by the former curator of Royal Randwick Racecourse, the late George Johnston OAM and is ideal for left and right-handed running as well as uphill and downhill galloping.  The 800 metre Uphill Track has a gradient of two degrees and was designed with the assistance of Mr Shane Willoughby based on his experience at the “Hidaka” track in Japan and US tracks in California, Kentucky and Florida.  Together with the Oval Track, this provides for a total run of up to 1500 metres and the optimal platform for the delivery of pre-training outcomes to trainer specifications.

Other key features of Cobbitty Lodge include stable design and horse paddock fencing which emphasise safety and longstanding professional relationships with the finest Veterinary Surgeons, Equine Dentists and Farriers within the Industry.  This combined with regular pasture improvement, worm control and the highest quality of feed ensure that your horse receives the best of care in all possible circumstances.

Over the years, Cobbitty Lodge has housed, educated and pre-trained the champions of legendary trainers such as Bart Cummings and Neville Begg and in 1986, Cobbitty Lodge established an Australasian Record for Group Winners that were broken in there.  The Class of ’86 won 15 Group Races and included Beau Zam, Sky Chase, Omnicorp and Rigoletto.  More recently, Cobbitty Lodge has been entrusted with the care of horses trained by today’s elite trainers such as Bjorn Baker, Joe Pride, John Thompson, Guy Walter, Gerald Ryan and Matthew Smith to name just a few.

Today Cobbitty Lodge continues these traditions of excellence under the management of highly qualified and successful horse lovers committed to returning horses to their owners and trainers in the best possible condition, physically and mentally, to cope with the rigors of racing.
